Wheelchair basketball promotes disability awareness at Louisville middle school

Students at St. Mary Academy in Prospect, Kentucky, learned the importance of empathy, inclusion and disability awareness through a wheelchair basketball session organised by the Skool Aid programme. The initiative encouraged students to experience the challenges and excitement of playing basketball from a wheelchair, helping them better understand the daily experiences of a classmate who uses one. Cincinnati Dragons wheelchair basketball player Jaime Luis Mazzi led the activity, highlighting how sport can promote positivity, acceptance and opportunities for people with disabilities. The session brought the school community together, demonstrating that inclusive sports can break down barriers, celebrate differences and foster a greater sense of belonging.
