Starbucks, Walmart, Other Retailers Roll Out Framework For Accessibility

The Access Coalition, comprising major companies such as Starbucks, Walmart and CVS Health, is working with the American Association of People with Disabilities to improve accessibility and inclusion in retail spaces. The coalition has released a 76-page Inclusive Spaces Playbook and an updated checklist to help businesses adopt inclusive design, exceed minimum requirements under the Americans with Disabilities Act and create more welcoming environments for people with disabilities. Following Starbucks’ introduction of its Inclusive Spaces Framework in 2024, the initiative has expanded through partnerships with several organisations. The coalition emphasises that accessibility should extend beyond retail stores to schools, government buildings, nonprofits and other public spaces, using the lived experiences of people with disabilities to develop practical, sustainable solutions that improve usability and inclusion for everyone.
