‘A new wheelchair could help me win bowling gold’

Joe Peplow is hoping to win gold at the Commonwealth Games Para Bowls this summer

Manor Park Sports Club in Malvern is raising £5,800 to buy a motorised wheelchair for 66-year-old Joe Peplow, who has been selected to represent his country in para bowls at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Having lost both legs in a motorway accident 17 years ago, Peplow credits bowls with restoring his confidence, improving his mental wellbeing and giving him a renewed sense of purpose. With encouragement from a friend, he discovered his passion for the sport and gradually progressed to a higher competitive level. The new wheelchair will provide greater independence and potentially improve his performance. The club has already received over £3,000 in pledges and is proud of Peplow’s achievements, hoping his success will inspire more disabled people, particularly wheelchair users, to participate in sport.

Manor Park Sports Club manager Chris Barr-Hamilton said Peplow’s achievements were “incredible”
