VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — The Volusia County Council on Thursday approved the purchase of an EcoRover to enhance the outdoor experience for residents with mobility issues.
The state-of-the-art mobility chair can navigate challenging terrains such as sand, gravel, and mud. It can also climb hills with gradients up to 20 degress, and operate in fresh water up to 8 inches deep.
The council hopes to increase community inclusion by giving mobility-impaired residents the opportunity to safely explore the nature in Volusia County.
The EcoRover will be stationed at Lyonia Environmental Center and available to the public for free.
County officials will release more information on how to reserve the EcoRover and its use at a later time.
The county said it aims to continue its commitment to enhancing outdoor accessibility for all, ensuring everyone can explore the county’s natural landscapes.
The county is able to purchase the chair through a $10,000 Florida Fish and Wildlife Foundation grant, along with $6,600 from county funds.
