The “Handitandem” initiative was launched by the Portlaoise Rotary Club, in collaboration with the Naas Rotary Club, at Clonbullogue Airfield in Offaly. This project offers people with physical disabilities the opportunity to participate in tandem skydives from 10,000 feet. The idea was inspired by a Rotary club in France, specifically Club Rotary de Matha, and aims to provide both mental and physical benefits to participants, including potential pain relief due to adrenaline effects. The initiative is seeking sponsors to support the event, which is planned for late May and involves participants from the Irish Wheelchair Association and others with various disabilities. Up to a dozen people are expected to participate, with costs estimated at around €400 per person.
