Being blind often means facing daily challenges — but also possessing remarkable strength of character. This perfectly describes the inspiring journey of Preety Daby, a 21-year-old student from Mohan Prasad Sharma Jugdambi State Secondary School, who, despite her disability, successfully passed her School Certificate (SC) examinations, obtaining 33 units. She earned an A in Hinduism, B in Sociology, C in both English and French Literature, D in French, and E in Travel and Tourism as well as in English.
The young woman shared: “Despite my visual impairment, my friends have always supported me. I’m grateful to my teachers, my family, and especially to my carer, who is always by my side to take notes for me. I managed to achieve such results thanks to their support and guidance.” With her three credits and one distinction, Preety stands as a fine example of perseverance and success.
Preety also expressed her gratitude to Lois Lagesse School, which provided her with books, since obtaining them at her college was difficult given that she uses Braille. It is worth noting that Braille is a tactile writing and reading system based on raised dots. It is not a language in itself but rather a tactile code that represents written texts — essential for the development of reading and writing skills for people with visual impairments.
