New disabled parking spaces have been created in Wrexham city centre due to the pedestrianisation of the High Street. Six new spaces are available on Rhosddu Road near Natwest, and another six on Holt Street at Tŷ Pawb, totaling 12 new spaces. This provision is equivalent to or double the original number of disabled parking spaces on High Street and is in addition to 12 spaces already available at Market Street car park. Additionally, six spaces are available at the Guildhall car park, which operates as a public car park on weekends but offers discounted rates for council staff during the week.
From April 14, parking on High Street is prohibited except for loading and unloading, with vehicle access limited between 6 am and 11:30 am except for specific reasons. The council aims to replicate the benefits of traffic-free city centres seen in other towns and cities, despite the adjustment period for regular drivers.
