Kuala Lumpur: Over 75,000 disabled job seekers hired since 2020, Dewan Rakyat told

From 2020 to February 2025, Malaysia’s Human Resources Ministry has made significant strides in improving employment opportunities for persons with disabilities (PWD) through various initiatives:

  • Return to Work (RTW) Programme: A disability management initiative that has employed 75,494 disabled individuals since 2020, with 4,928 employed in early 2025. It focuses on helping injured or ill individuals recover and rejoin the workforce.

  • Upskilling and Training: Through the Madani training programme, 1,915 participants received basic skills training by December 2024. Additionally, the Skills Development Department accredited 1,582 centres nationwide, with seven exclusively for disabled trainees. Between 2020 and 2024, over 2,100 trainees were certified.

  • Targeted Employment Support: Initiatives include MYFutureJobs satellite centres, job carnivals, and special interview sessions. From 2020 to March 2023, 67 special interviews resulted in 464 job placements for PWD.

  • Financial Assistance: Disabled students received training support and monthly allowances of RM300. Between 2020 and 2024, 245 students were trained in fields like graphic design and electronics.

These efforts demonstrate the ministry’s commitment to enhancing employment accessibility for PWD while addressing associated challenges like low public sector representation and limited social protection coverage.
