The Minister of Housing and Lands, Mr Shakeel Ahmed Yousuf Abdul Razack Mohamed, visited, today, the construction site of the New Social Living Development Ltd at Pointe-aux-Sables and the existing social housing project managed by the National Housing Development Company (NHDC) at La Tour Koenig.
The objective was to take stock of the progress of works and the environment in which the inhabitants are living respectively.
He was accompanied by the Minister of Gender Equality and Family Welfare, Mrs Marie Arianne Navarre-Marie, and the Junior Minister of Agro-Industry, Food Security, Blue Economy and Fisheries, Mr Gilles Fabrice David.
With regard to the site visit at Pointe-aux-Sables, Minister Mohamed indicated that works concerning solar panels and a rainwater harvesting system have already been carried out. He mentioned the possible implementation of other components around the project so as to enhance the quality of life of future beneficiaries.
As for the existing social housing project at La Tour Koenig, Mr Mohamed pointed out that one major problem faced by the inhabitants is flooding during heavy rainfalls due to faulty drains.
On that score, he said that officers of his Ministry will liaise with those of the Ministry of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change and the Minicipal Council of Port Louis in order to rapidly address this issue.
Minister Navarre-Marie, for her part, stated that the relevant authorities will do the needful to provide adequate solutions to tackle the problems that the inhabitants currently face.
As for Junior Minister David, he indicated that some more site visits will be organised to address environmental, social and infrastructural problems at the NHDC at La Tour Koenig so as to enhance the quality of life of the inhabitants.
