Derby City: Accessibility and inclusion at the heart of revamped Market Hall

The revamped Derby Market Hall is set to open in spring 2025 as one of the city’s most accessible and inclusive public buildings. The £31.5 million transformation, supported by £9.43 million from the Government’s Future High Street Fund, includes several accessibility features:

  • New Lift: Provides seamless access between floors.

  • Levelled Flooring: Ensures step-free access for all visitors.

  • Changing Places Toilet: Equipped with a hoist, changing bed, shower, and adjustable wash basin.

  • Muted Colours and Lighting: Designed to support visually impaired visitors with improved visibility through correctly calibrated lumens and contrasted fixtures.

Osnabruck Square has also been redeveloped with new inclusive benches and a modern drainage system to remove surface water. Additionally, three blue badge parking spaces will be available.

Councillor Nadine Peatfield emphasized that accessibility has been a priority throughout the redevelopment process, aiming to make Derby an inclusive city for all.
