Century Welfare Association hosts joyful holiday event for children with disabilities

On Thursday, 18 December 2025, the Century Welfare Association, a longstanding NGO in Mauritius dedicated to supporting children with disabilities, wrapped up a month-long series of special holiday and fun day activities at its centre in Cité Martial, Plaine Verte, Port Louis. The event featured a festive lunch for the children, followed by a prize-giving ceremony to celebrate their achievements in various competitions and outstanding studies throughout the month.

Distinguished Guests Attended

Hon. Aadil Ameermeea, Minister of Industry, SME and Cooperatives, graced the occasion alongside Mohammad Yaaseen Edoo, a prominent disability rights activist and editor of Handicap Universel, as well as social worker Javed Soyfoo and other special invitees. Their presence highlighted community support for the association’s mission, which has included operating a Special Education Needs School since 1998 for children aged 4-16 from low-income families in areas like Plaine Verte and Roche-Bois.

The prize-giving ceremony recognized students of the year and top performers in competitions held over the past month, fostering a sense of accomplishment and inclusion. Founded in 1969, the Century Welfare Association continues to provide essential education, care, and skills development to help these children thrive despite challenges. Events like this underscore the NGO’s commitment to creating safe, joyful spaces for children with special needs in Mauritius.
